Charles Faust
”People don’t arrive broken. They start with passion and yearning till something comes along that disabuses them of those notions.”
”Without death we'd be at a loss. It's the prospect of death that drives us to greatness.”
Name: Charles Faust (Hades)
Title/Nickname: God of the Underworld, God of Death and Darkness, God of Wealth, Aidoneus, Aides (the unseen), Pluto (the rich one), Ditis Pater, Dis Pater, Dis, Orcus (killer), Polydectes (the receiver of many), Clymenus (the Illustrious), Eubulus (the giver of good counsel), etc. He is the "one of many names".
Pantheon: Greek
Deity: Hades
Mortal Age:30
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 185lbs
Appearance and Personality
Eye Color:Black/Brown depending on the light.
Hair Color:Black
Face Claim: Mads Mikkelsen
Physical Description: Charles Faust is an elegant man, dressed only in the finest of suits befitting of a man of his stature. His voice is coarse but soft, as he speaks only when he deems it necessary and is always straight to the point, if he were ever to raise his voice in your presence than you know you’ve truly made him angry.
The easiest way to describe his physical body, a bit on the pale side due to certain circumstances, is that of a thirty-year-old man who routinely participates in physical workouts and takes good care of his body. He’s no body builder but he definitely makes sure to keep his body in tip top shape. Despite what some people would have you think. His jet-black hair is befitting of his time spent in the underworld and is generally nicely combed. It is however his eyes that catch most people’s attention as depending on the light he is in can appear black and almost soulless or a normal shade of brown.
Likes: Order, Intelligence,Being in the know, Justice, Persephone, his Brothers.
Dislikes: Chaos, senseless violence, liars, not knowing things, the lies and misconceptions spread about him, people who break guest right/hospitality, his Brothers.
Fears: Not much scares the God of the Underworld, in this life or in previous ones, but the one thing he does fear (as all Gods should) is being forgotten.
Goals: To be successful, bring about order to his workplace(s), gather knowledge of things going on in the world, to make sure things do not happen without him knowing or having had a hand in it.
Habits:Smoking (he's not quite a chain smoker but can generally be seen with a cigarette between his lips/fingers), reading (particularly history books or things having to do with politics and money).
General Personality: The individual known as Charles Faust is a simple man. Personality wise. He breathes confidence and those around him know that he is the smartest man in the room. He is not one for laziness or underhanded dealings of any kind. Soft spoken and to the point Mr. Faust will let you know what needs to be done and get straight to the point for as he likes to say “Life is short, let’s make the most of it. Don’t just stand there doing nothing, get moving. Achieve something.” He is your classic business man, smart and calculating, always appearing to be one to two steps ahead of everyone else, never letting his true intentions known and keeping everything behind a mask of a calm demeanor. It takes quite a lot for him to truly get angry, as he’s had centuries to perfect his anger, but the saying ‘fury of Hell’ is one that comes from somewhere.
Hades is perhaps the only just Greek God. He is a man of his word and sticks by his bound. He detests liars and cheaters as he considers it to be crass and undignified, and thus follows his own sort of code of honor. There are few beings in the universe he respects and perhaps only one or two he actually cares about, though his actions on their behalf are almost always for his own benefit, yet it cannot be doubted even by his family that if one needs assistance in some matter they need not look any further than the Pale One. He is not quick to help those he deems unworthy or if it is not worth his time, but if one makes the effort to ask for his help he will give it. Like a Lanister, as it is believed he may have helped inspired the titular family, insists on always paying back debts, and keeps his word- though this must not be confused with virtue.
Powers
Powers and Abilities:
Sphere of the Underworld:
Necromancy: The ability to summon the undead. Skeletal warriors, ghosts, and zombies, all under Charles’ complete control. The angrier or more focused Charles is, the easier it is to summon large numbers of undead all at once, the same goes for banishing those summoned by enemy necromancers. Generally above ground the most he’d be able to summon is about 25 at one time. That is of course the max amount and generally not something he often does. Additionally the closer, or further, from a graveyard or where the dead have actually reside also reflects the number of undead he is able to summon (dispersing them is not effected this way as it is easier to un-summon the dead than to summon them). This power is multiplied by four when he is in the underworld.
Umbrakinesis: As God of the Underworld, Hades has the unique ability of opening portals in shadows, allowing him to, nearly instantly, transport from one place to another. The greater the distance, the greater the drain his stamina. In other words, he can generate and manipulate shadows at will, and use them to travel great distances in a few moments. Through practice, he has managed to reach a level where he can Shadow Travel nearly instantly, usually in order to outmaneuver his opponents when he's in the middle of a fight. In the Underworld however this is perhaps one of his greatest powers, being able to move through the shadows and appear wherever he so chooses as quickly as he chooses.
Cryokinesis: To a minor degree as Charles/Hades generates an aura of cold from his body. Mostly it's just unnerving for his enemies to be hit by a wave of cold as he descends on them, skeletons at his back. In the Underworld he is able to rapidly lower the temperature to sub-zero temperatures around him in a sphere of about twenty to thirty feet.
Geokinesis: Charles has the ability to mend the earth with his touch and cause earthquakes with his step. With this ability he is able to contort, twist, and mend the very stone we walk upon to his will and shape it to his design. Having solid rock walls form where there previously was none, shifting cave tunnels, opening up cracks in the ground and splintering the earth. (Not nearly an Earth-bender like control though). As for the Earthquakes the strongest he is able to produce, and thus leaves him very exhausted afterwards and takes lots of concentration, is about a 6.0-6.9 on the Ricter scale.
Gemstone Summoning: As the Lord of the Underworld, often called the Plentiful or Rich One, Charles/Hades is able to summon gemstones from the earth. By placing his hand on the ground (must be the earth itself as it doesn't work through man made structures) and concentrating he can pull forth gemstones and other rare metals. The amount he can pull up from the ground usually depends on how long he concentrates.
Sphere of Death:
Soul Manipulation: Due to being the Lord of the Underworld and God of the Dead, Hades was the first judge of those that past (before he selected his three judges) and thus when he kills someone, or if he sees someone die/is present at the death, he is able to decide where their soul will go when they die. Additionally, any lingering spirits that Hades may come across he is also able to subject them to this power. Any unwilling, or perhaps willing but stuck, spirits the Lord of the Dead comes across he is able to send them to the depths of the underworld and their proper place there.
(Bit of a rp mechanic honestly, don’t expect this power to come up very often).
Time of Death: While nothing so crass as seeing a clock counting down above someone’s head, Hades as the original God of Death is able to sense when a person is going dying. The closer they are to their fated time the easier it is for him to tell. As it has been centuries sense he handed over the reigns to first Hermes, and then Thanatos, he can no longer tell exactly how a person is going to die though and at times his timing is even slightly off, but he can still generally get a good idea of how and when their time from this world will come to pass.
Look into Death: Not quite what it sounds like. Hades is able to tell how a person died. By touching someone’s body, the more recently they died the easier and clearer, he is able to sort of see what happened at that person’s moment of death. Almost as if he is looking at the world around them at their exact moment of death. Letting him see what they saw, as well as see the area just around them during their final moments.
Touch of Death: Not as potent as it used to be sense handing the reigns over to Thanatos but there is a reason he was the original Lord of the Damned, and that the place he resides is called after his name. Hades is, when he so chooses, able to kill with but a touch. An ability that takes a lot out of him and even puts him into a sort of coma-like sleep at times (if used on someone with a strong life force, or who was not destined to die at that time). This touch is near instantaneous however he can also delay the process and instead killing them upon touch slowly drain their life force from them. Those in the Fields of Punishment know for a fact that Hades knows how to torture someone.
Skills: Gifted Businessman: Charles Faust is one of the shrewdest businessmen in the world. He makes Rockefeller and Carnegie look like children playing monopoly. In public he prides himself on being a "people's person", a philanthropist, and all around great guy. He donates more money to charity than people like Bill Gates, or so he claims, and always makes sure those that prove their worth are rewarded. He strives to make the general public view him as the Captain of Industry he truly believes he is. While In private however things are much different than what they seem. He’s more of a Robber Barron than anything. Stepping on anyone and everything in the way of getting what he wants. Doing so because he believes he knows best.
Brilliant Scientist: Charles is not only a businessman but a gifted scientist as well due to the memories of his last life. He's solved complicated genetic formulas in seconds and helped to map the human DNA as well as helped study those of his godly brethren, in his pantheon and not. All the better to keep him safe, to have a leg up on those that would hurt him and to keep himself and those he cares for safe.
Multi-Lingual: On his college application, Faust claimed that he could read and write Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, French, Hebrew, Latin, and ancient Greek. His claims have yet to be disproven.
Skilled Combatant: Charles is an expert in martial arts (most notably Krav Maga, and Karate), boxing, swordplay and gun handling. One needs to keep their body just as sharp as their mind, as he says.
Highly Intelligent: Charles Faust has an impressive IQ, listed to be somewhere in the low 200’s or high 190’s. It helps that he seems to have an eidetic memory and hyperthymesia which allows him to recall every waking moment of his entire life. (And as he slowly came to realize the older he got his past lives as well. Yes, Hades knows and remembers all just as Death knows and comes for us all.)

History:
What is History but the stories of old told by the victors? And what greater victor is there than the God of Death? The King of the Underworld had humble beginnings, born to King and Queen of the Titans (Kronos and Rhea respectfully), and swallowed up by his Father like the rest of his siblings, save Zeus. But, because he is an immortal God he didn’t die and grew up inside of his father’s stomach alongside his other siblings. Eventually they would all escape and overthrow the Titans, and after dividing the roles of the universe Hades became the King of the Underworld and God of the Dead. Most stories tell that Hades was not happy with his lot in this new world order and although that may have been true at the beginning of his reign over the centuries he has come to accept and even appreciate his role. All things come to his domain eventually.
Eventually realizing his domain was growing too large Hades asked Hermes to help him guide the dead to the underworld, as there were too many people dying for him to collect them all himself, who eventually would pass the job onto Thanatos the most well-known collector of souls. He ruled the underworld with a strong but fair fist and usually kept his eyes and thoughts not on the world above save for when something interested him. Like for instance the beautiful daughter of Demeter, Persephone. Though the stories differ the one thing that stays true is that Hades did indeed kidnap Persephone but that he would rape her or harm her in anyway are all false accusations from Hera, Zeus, and Demeter all jealous of the love that eventually blossomed between the two. She is the one individual whom he truly cares for and would do anything for, and unlike his brothers Hades has never once been unfaithful towards his wife. In all his lifetimes.
When the Gods started to fall, Hades was there watching. When they started to die off and be reborn the Lord of the Underworld sat upon his throne and took notice and waited for his time. He did not fear death, and perhaps besides Thanatos respected it more than anyone else. So, when it finally came to him, seemingly after all the rest even his beloved Persephone had faded to obscurity he met it like an old friend. Which, is why when they started to return he was surprised. He had always thought that of everything in this world Death was the only constant.
As he was the last God to go, you would think he would also be one of the last to return but it would not be so. In the early 1900’s a young boy by the name of Jefferson Daniels would open his eyes after a peaceful sleep and memories of a thousand years past would flood his mind. He was called mad, tossed into an insane asylum and a year after his memories surfaced he would greet Death once again as an old friend. Five years later another would be born who would grow to inherit the memories of the old god. This time able to accept and comprehend the memories easier than poor Jefferson. William Peter’s would live on through the roaring twenties, gathering vast amounts of money and influence, while always staying below the radar. Keeping watch of the things that went on around him.
Throughout the debacle in the 40’s and the government involvement in the mystical side of the world he watched. He learned. Becoming a scientist as a way to help himself, to make sure he knew what they looked for, how they detected those that were the Gods reborn. All to keep himself safe and knowledgeable. It was with this knowledge that he was able to live out the life of William Peter’s with little to no interference until the day he died at 75 years old in 1980. Eight years later a young boy would be born in Las Angeles to a budding movie star and her high school sweetheart, Johnathan and Mary Faust. This child would grow up under the guidance and love of his parents, something no incarnation of Hades had ever had, molding him into the man he is today.
His memories of his previous lives would slowly start to surface at around age ten, and fully developed at around age sixteen. With these memories, his own natural intellect, the proper schooling, and the motivation from his mortal parents Charles Faust was molded into a very gifted individual both physically and mentally. He took multiple classes in high school at the college level and would graduate college at eighteen with a dual degree in Business and Finance, with a double minor in Law and Economics. He would take these degrees to rise through the fields and start a very successful banking company, a real estate agency, and a recording studio. He moved his head of business from Las Angels to Caliente, New Mexico a few years after his twenty-fifth birthday on the pretense that the budding community would make great money for him and his employees (while still keeping the Las Angeles locations open). Sense then his wealth and influence, and companies, have expanded to have offices all across the United States and even in Canada, and some countries in Europe and South America.
RP Mechanics
Fluff:
Helm of Darkness: Hades’ signature item. His Helm of Darkness. Said to allow the wearer to turn completely invisible, while other stories claim that while he wears it he is able to make someone see their worst fears. To relieve every punishment, torture, or terrible thing they’ve ever done to someone else. The item is in fact able to do both of these things. In his past two life times he was unable to find and recollect this item but due to the wealth and influence he has this time around he was able to recollect the Helm and it can usually be seen sitting on a pedestal in his main office which is under the main office of Golden Chariot Banking, Real Estate and Recording Studios.
Speaking of Golden Chariot Banking, Real Estate and Recording Studios (or Golden Chariot B,R,&R)the main office is the one mentioned above located in New Mexico and it an elegant yet simple skyscraper that goes about 100 floors up with each floor dedicated to a different division of the company. The strange thing about the elevator is that after the 100th button there is a button that claims to go to floor 300. This of course is a floor 100 floors down, beneath the building and down into the Underworld where Hades or Charles Faust's office resides. Upon selecting the floor the elevator will descend down but still feel as if it is going up so as not to arise suspicion. It opens up to a waiting room with a secretary sitting at a desk who if the person has an appointment will allow the individual inside.
